Memorial Union centers around a large-scale suspended sculpture inspired by polygonal geometry, repetition, and natural formation patterns. Developed as a statement piece for the project’s central gathering space, the installation transforms simple repeated elements into a sculptural composition that feels both organic and architectural.
STORY
Polygonal Form & Repetition
The artwork was developed through a study of modular geometry, exploring how repeated polygonal forms could create movement, texture, and depth at an architectural scale. Inspired by natural aggregation patterns and cellular structures, the sculpture shifts between moments that feel highly ordered and organically irregular.
Constructed from hundreds of individual wood elements, the installation uses repetition and variation to create a sense of flow across the space. The suspended form allows the piece to change depending on viewing angle and light conditions, creating a dynamic centerpiece within the Memorial Union gathering area.
